About NAR (sometimes naIr)

Science Comes First

Integrated COTS or Bespoke Autonomy

Integrated COTS or Bespoke Autonomy

We are predominantly scientists.  Our interest and experience w UxSs is to serve the scientific needs of our customer's research.  While we have designed and sold systems commercially, our combined problem-solving skillset is mostly directed at gathering the data to answer the scientific questions.

NAR's (NAiR's) fleet includes over (150) aircraft, surface, underwater, and land vehicles.  When COTS components are suitable, we use them, updating sensors and skills as needed.  But, more than half our fleet are designed and fabricated by NAR engineers, with 35 years of successful tests and flawless FAA flight logs with over 9,000 operating hours without safety incident!

The 'i' is for Innovative

Integrated COTS or Bespoke Autonomy

The 'i' is for Innovative

Our aerospace and systems engineers gained their skills in US industry and Federal R&D labs - when there is no answer in the back of the book (or no book at all) then we dissect the problem and innovate the sensing and deployment capabilities our customer's problems need.  When we exceed the capabilities needed, we take on more challenging problems.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Surface vessel and ground vehicle operations are governed by the MN DOT, where contact with civilians is possible and we deploy two or more person teams for safety.  In the air we normally operate under FAA Part 107 regulations and often deploy a single Pilot In Command (POC) unless mission complexity or time schedule require 1+ deployments.

NAR operates as a MN-based Commercial Air Service, requiring fleet and mission insurance.  When state or municipalities require it, NAR maintains an additional general liability insurance policy as well.

NAR has internal fabrication for most all vehicle/vessel fabrication or repair.  This includes airframe repair as well as electrical/electronic repairs.  Summer 2025 NAR will begin the fabrication of new large-scale UASs (wingspans >3 m (~10 ft)).  NAR maintains relations with Minneapolis metro and Chicagoland metro fabricators for any specialized parts fabrication including custom molding (for EPO and EVA or composite vehicle parts).
